After our first season of giving, Team DGBG managed to contribute almost $6000 to Wish for wheels which was enough to donate 58 brand new bicycles to kindergarten and grade one students at Stedman Elementary School in Denver. On September 28th, a group of us were able to go back to school and join a small crew of W4W folks to build bikes and then give them along with helmets to low income kids from the area.
It was a beautiful day made all the more so by the unbelievable enthusiasm of the kids and teachers who were so genuinely grateful and overwhelmed to be benefitting in this way. I received this email the next day from the school resource counselor:
"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! The families and children here at Stedman Elementary school are so excited to have their bikes. We really appreciate everyone's hard work in the process and for choosing Stedman to participate in this wonderful opportunity. We cannot say thank you enough. I wish I would have been able to stay and watch the whole experience but I am definitely enjoying the pictures and the feedback from families students here at the school."
On behalf of Whitney and myself thank you to all of those who were able to make time during their day to come out and make this happen. And thank you to the whole team for your generosity! I can genuinely say that we made a big difference for many in a tangible way. As several teachers and parents mentioned to me, in many cases this was the first time that many of these children were receiving something new in their whole lives. It was a real joy to be a part of it.
